At 26.49 metres, the Azimut 86 occupies a category of its own within the Italian builder’s S series. Designed by Stefano Righini, the exterior profile is long and low, defined by a narrow bow, sharply raked windscreen, and the series’ signature mirrored shark-fin windows — a silhouette that reads as speed even at rest. Twin MTU 16V2000 diesel engines deliver a top speed of 45 knots, with propulsion available via Arneson surface drives or Hamilton hydro-jet systems — the latter offering near-silent acceleration and stop distance of three boat lengths from full speed. The main deck aft is arranged for open-air dining and entertainment, while a large foredeck sunpad extends the exterior living area forward. Below, four staterooms accommodate up to eight guests — among them a full-beam owner’s stateroom and a VIP cabin — each finished in lacquered wood, Italian leather, and brushed steel. A crew of two operate from dedicated quarters aft. The 86S was Azimut’s entry into high-performance yachting. It remains one of the most capable expressions of that ambition.
